Bruins Win in Overtime, Losing Two Sports Legends, and Looking to 2022.

NHL hockey is finally back after a brief hiatus since December 16 due to China virus issues.  Yesterday, Saturday January 1, the Boston Bruins faced off against the Buffalo Sabres.  The Bs were losing the first two periods, but early in the third both Nick Foligno and Taylor Hall scored to tie the game 3-3.

With four minutes and thirty seconds left in the OT period, however, Charlie Coyle scored the game winning goal.

Up next the Bruins play against the Detroit Red Wings at Little Ceasars Arena in Detroit, Michigan.

The year 2021 flew by, yet here we are looking at 2022 smack dab in the face.  Seems like time is just on warp speed.  Unfortunately, though, in 2021 we lost two sports legends and voices that were iconic in the baseball and football world.

Jerry Remy was a second basemen for the California Angels and then the Boston Red Sox.  After retirement, he went on to broadcasting and became a staple in Red Sox Nation.  Trust me, being married to someone from Massachusetts when we watched Red Sox baseball, we watched it on NESN (New England Sports Network) so we could hear Jerry call the game.

On October 30, 2021,however, the legendary Red Sox Jerry “Remdawg” Remy passed away at the age of 68.  He was battling lung cancer and was able to throw out the ceremonial first pitch on October 5 during the Wild Card game against the New York Yankees.

The infamous “Here Comes the Pizza” broadcast, which is featured below, was one of the most iconic commentaries between Jerry Remy and Don Orsillo.

John Madden was an offensive lineman by trade, but had to cut his playing time short due to a knee injury.  He eventually turned to coaching and became the Head Football Coach of the Los Angeles Raiders.  Coach Madden retired from coaching at the age of 42 and turned to broadcasting.  He broadcasted NFL games from all the major TV networks, NBC, CBS, Fox, and ABC.

Madden was also featured in several ads, most notably the Tinactin commercials.  The video game sports world would be forever changed as EA approached Coach Madden about doing a football game.  The EA Madden NFL video game series was born. My oldest Madden NFL game is Madden 2000. I used to play that game nonstop on the Nintendo 64 back in the day.

On Christmas Day, Fox showcased a documentary featuring the legendary football icon, but unexpectedly, the Hall of Famer, broadcaster, and Super Bowl Champion died on December 28, 2021 at the age of 85.

You can check out an exerpt from the documentary below featuring one of my favorite football players Hall of Famer and Super Bowl Champion Peyton Manning.

The game seems like it was yesterday, but I’ll never forget the John Madden and Pat Summerall call of the 1996 NFC Divisional Series featuring the Dallas Cowboys and the Carolina Panthers. John Madden highlighting a touchdown from Carolina Panther quarterback Kerry Collins to TE Wesley Walls is listed below.

As I said earlier, 2021 seemed to go by lightning fast but as we look forward to 2022, I hope this year brings lots of good things.  Last year was a move year, so this year we plan on taking a lot more camping trips in the RV.  Hopefully we can visit my family in Texas for our annual 4th of July reunion.

As far as streaming and gaming goes, I’m hoping to get a new PC this year and start a broadcasting schedule.  Since we are finally moved in and I have secured a job, one of my goals is to get back to streaming and gaming regularly.

Whatever this year brings, I hope it’s a safe and prosperous one!

Happy New Year everyone and take care!!
