The family and I had an opportunity to go see the Boston Red Sox play at Camden Yards yesterday, which I wanted to do before we leave this area. It was a beautiful day in the city of Baltimore, Maryland and since the game was later in the afternoon, the shade quickly moved in to block the glaring sun setting up a perfect late afternoon of baseball.
After getting a few hot dogs, water, and an ice-cold beer, we settled into our seats behind the Orioles dug out to take in the sights and sounds that Camden Yards has to offer. It wasn’t until the fifth inning, however, before we saw any action as Alex Verdugo hit an RBI single and gave the Red Sox a 1-0 lead. Kike Hernandez then scored two more in the sixth as he belted a homerun over the left field wall, which gave Boston a nice three run lead.
Wacha started to struggle in the seventh and allowed the Orioles to come back, but Boston was still in the lead 3-2.
Christian Arroyo scored an insurance run in the ninth inning with Whitlock sealing the deal to get the last three outs of the inning and giving the Red Sox a much-needed victory.
It was a great day for a baseball game and even though Camden Yards isn’t as historic as Fenway, the venue has its own appeal and is a very nice baseball park. Definitely look forward to next year to catch another game with the Red Sox.
The Red Sox close out the series with Baltimore tonight and will be broadcasted on ESPN at 7:10pm EDT.
