This year’s Playstation Showcase brought forth a lot of new games. There were trailers for thirty-three upcoming titles for the PS5 and the PSVR2 headset releasing this year and into 2024.
While they all looked amazing, nothing stood out as “must have” titles. There was no mention of a Bloodborne 2, which is disappointing, but there were two games that did grab my attention, Phantom Blade and Spiderman 2.
Phantom Blade looks action pact and honestly looks menacingly hard. The game appears to have elements from Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Ninja Gaiden. The quick blade movements are quick and fast, so I’m curious if those are combos or just button mashing, like I did for pretty much all of the Ninja Gaiden series, sadly.
Either way, the game looks amazing and I’m looking forward to hearing more about it.
Phantom Blade looks like the offspring of Dark Souls, Bloodborne, and Ninja Gaiden … I love it!

Spiderman 2 was another game that caught my eye. This trailer was featured at the end of the presentation, but it was actual game footage and demonstration more so than an actual trailer. This third-person action game reminded me of the Batman Arkham Asylum series.
Especially with the action movements, combat sequences, and the way Spiderman moves around the environment using his web. Similarly, like Batman would use his cape to fly around Gotham City.
This game is certainly on the watch list for me.
Spiderman 2 has that Batman: Arkham Asylum vibe to it … I like the web slinging to move around the environment, similar to Batman's cape. Feeling it!#PlayStationShowcase | #playstationshowcase2023 pic.twitter.com/Jn3xp3Ls7E

Sony also announced two hardware additions to the lineup as Playstation will be releasing their version of a Nintendo Switch. Known as Project Q, the device features an eight-inch screen in-between a PS5 controller for a portable experience.
Other hardware released are Playstation earbuds that will be able to connect to PS5 and mobile devices via Bluetooth technology.

Overall, the Showcase highlighted some really impressive games and hardware, the Presentation just seemed to be missing that “it” factor or that “got to have” game. A Bloodborne 2 or EA Sports NCAA Football game trailer would have definitely done it for me!
