Fired Up Fridays:  Tar Heels Win, College Football Week 1 Prep, and NHL TV Schedule Released

Tar Heels Win

Week 1 of college football started last night as we tuned in to the UNC vs Minnesota game, kind of have to, it’s my wife’s alma mater.  Be that as it may, it was a really good game and had playoff contention vibes, even though it was week 1.

UNC starts a new era without Drake Maye, as the Tar Heels usher in the new captain Max Johnson.  Unfortunately, that was short lived as Johnson suffered a knee injury in the third quarter.  QB Conner Harrell came in to finish the job.

Minnesota had an opportunity to score first but instead chose to be the first team to doink a field goal attempt late in the first quarter.

A close game, but UNC came out with the win after another missed field goal attempt by Gopher kicker Dragan Kesich.

College Football Week 1 Prep

Heading to Costco to fill up on meats, beer, and other snacks to prepare for a full slate of college football on Saturday, starting with my Florida Gators against the No. 19 Miami Hurricanes.  The last time these two teams met in the Swamp was back on September 6, 2008 and the Gators won 26-3.

I’m hoping for a repeat of that on Saturday as Coach Napier, QB Graham Mertz, and company showcase what the 2024 University of Florida football program looks like.

We’ll see what happens, but I’m expecting the Gators to win this one with a 24-17 victory over the Hurricanes.

NHL TV Schedule

The NHL released their TV schedule for the 2024-2025 hockey season.  The Boston Bruins are expected to get 14 this year, which is amazing!

Preseason games begin on September 22nd with the Bruins facing off against the New York Rangers at TD Garden.
