Fired Up Fridays: NFL Season Begins and Freshman QB Gets the Start for the Gators

Ravens vs Chiefs

The 2024 NFL season kicked off last night and featured a high-quality game between the Baltimore Ravens and the defending Super Bowl Champions Kansas City Chiefs.

Mahomes was up to his usual antics and threw for 291 yards and a touchdown.  He was 20 for 28 with an interception.  Lamar was a bit more sporadic at times, but did throw for 273 yards and a touchdown.

Seemed like the Chiefs dominated the game, for the most part, until the fourth quarter when the Ravens made a comeback and heroic last-ditch effort to tie the game.

With five seconds left on the clock, Lamar hiked the ball and threw it to WR Likely for what seemed like the go ahead touchdown.  Unfortunately for the Ravens, though, Likely’s toe was out of bounds and the touchdown was overturned resulting in a Chiefs win 27-20 as time expired.

It was a hell of a game and great way to start off the NFL season.

Now I’m hoping my Carolina Panthers will have the same result on Sunday against the New Orleans Saints.

DJ Lagway Will Make First Collegiate Start

As the Gators prepare for their rebound against Samford and recover from an abysmal game and loss against the Miami Hurricanes, freshman quarterback DJ Lagway is gearing up for his first start at the collegiate level.

Freshman DJ Lagway will be making his debut on Saturday due to Mertz still in concussion protocol from a hit he took during the loss against the Miami Hurricanes.

Lagway threw for 4.600 yards and 58 touchdowns during his senior year at Willis, Texas so I’m anxious to see what he can bring to the Gators offense.

The Freshman quarterback was named as the 2023 national Gatorade Player of the Year, Bobby Dodd National Back of the Year, 2023 MaxPreps Player of the Year, 2023 Elite 11 National High School Quarterback of the Year and 2023 National Quarterback Club High School Quarterback of the Year.

Pretty impressive accolades from the young quarterback, but we’ll see how he does on Saturday against Samford. I’m predicting the Gators first win with a 24-17 victory, hopefully!

It’s Friday! Time to Get Fired Up!!
