Fired Up Fridays:  College Football Week 3 is Here; Gators vs Texas A&M in the Swamp

College Football Week 3

It’s the middle of September and week three of college football is upon us!  My Florida Gators will face off against the Texas A&M Aggies in The Swamp this Saturday as QB Graham Mertz makes his return from concussion protocol.

QB DJ Lagway took over for Mertz in week two against Samford and was very impressive.  He threw for 456 yards and three touchdowns, for example.

So who will be Field General against A&M?

Per CBS Sports, Florida Gators head coach Billy Napier said:

“That’s where the gamesmanship is.  I don’t want to put the playbook on the streets here. Ultimately, (DJ’s) one of our better players. We’re going to give him an opportunity to impact the game and contribute to the team. That’s our intention.”

Obviously, that’s a very vague answer.  Reading between the lines, though, it sounds like he will use DJ is some form or fashion.  Hopefully NOT in a Wildcat formation.

If it were me, however, I would still bench DJ (for now) and give the keys back to Mertz.  Graham is the starter and until he shows signs that he can’t handle the job, Lagway should be used sporadically.  Keep in mind, neither quarterback did good against Miami, so the Gators’ offensive woes go beyond the quarterback position.

The Texas A&M game will be very telling for the Florida Gator football program.  We shall see.

I believe the Gators will take this one with a 24-17 victory over the Aggies.

CFB week 3 is here! Time to get fired up!!
