Fired Up Fridays:  Bruins Drama in Beantown and Florida Gator Bowl Hopes in the Balance

Interim Coach Socco Gets a Win

Head coach drama has engulfed Boston this week with the firing of Jim Montgomery due to a disappointing start to the Bruins 2024-2025 hockey season.  Having lost 12 of Boston’s last 20 games, something had to be done.

Whether or not firing Montgomery was a good idea or not is yet to be seen, but with interim coach Jim Socco now at the helm, the Boston Bruins are off to a good start.

The Bruins got their first win under Boston native Jim Socco on Thursday night with a 1-0 victory against the Utah Hockey Club.  Elias Lindholm got the only goal of the game and Bruins goalie Korpisalo had 21 saves, which contributed to securing the win against Utah.

The Boston Bruins will play at Detroit on Saturday, so we’ll see if this win was a fluke or if Coach Socco can bring back some winning magic to Beantown.

Florida Gators Bowl Hopes in the Balance

Two games left.  That’s how many chances my Florida Gators have left to earn a potential bowl game.

Old Miss will be a challenge.  That’s a given, but if we can get DJ Lagway rolling with the long ball and minimize penalties, we may have shot.  Oh … and run the damn Baugh!!

Jadan Baugh had 65 yards and a touchdown against LSU last week.

I’m feeling pretty confident about this matchup against Ole Miss.  Florida pushed the Tennessee game into overtime and the Gators were keeping up with Georgia (until the Lagway injury), so if DJ can find a way to sling some long passes, that could provide some opportunities for Baugh to pound the rock.

Minimizing penalties would be greatly appreciated as well.

Ole Miss will be a challenging foe as they are ranked No. 10 and are looking to stay in the playoff hunt.  That said, though, Florida has an opportunity to play spoiler and secure a potential bowl birth with a victory against the Rebels.

Florida wins 27-24

It’s Friday, time to get fired up!!
