Fired Up Fridays:  Gator Softball Wins Season Opener and Super Bowl Weekend is Here

UF Beat UNF 8-0

While Florida still has another week before their baseball season starts, the Gators softball team played last night and beat the North Florida Ospreys 8-0 in a run-rule win.  Shumaker, Otis, Walsh, and Cahalan all had homeruns during the offensive onslaught against North Florida.

It definitely was a quick game.  As soon as I cracked open my bag of sunflower seeds, the Florida Gator softball team was rushing to home plate to celebrate their first win of the 2025 softball season.

Pressly Stadium had a pretty good-sized crowd as 1,538 softball fans watched the Gators put on a show.

Next up for the Gators will be the USF-Rawlings Invitational on February 7 to February 9.  Florida will play Illinois State at 7p.m. on Friday night.

Super Bowl Weekend is Here

All I have to say about the football season is this, it went by way too damn fast!

The Ohio State Buckeyes have been crowned National Champions and the NFL season will wrap up on Sunday with a Super Bowl rematch between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Philadelphia Eagles.

These two teams met on February 12, 2023 for Super Bowl LVII (57) with the Chiefs walking away as Super Bowl Champions.

Not sure what will happen this time around, but we shall see soon enough.

I’m just hoping for a good game and lots of funny commercials.

It would be good to see Jalen Hurts get his first ring and the Eagles their first title since Super Bowl 52 back in February of 2018, seven years ago.

On the other hand, Mahomes is poised to go down in history with a three-peat Super Bowl win and could tie Joe Montana and Terry Bradshaw with the most Super Bowl wins as a quarterback.

Regardless, though, I have no dog in this fight as my Carolina Panthers haven’t been to a Super Bowl since 2016’s loss against Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos, but I digress.

Until the season starts again this fall, go Panthers and go Gators!!

Chiefs Win:  32-29 | MVP: Mahomes
