Fired Up Fridays:  USA Loses to Canada in 4-Nations Faceoff Finale and MLB Spring Training is Underway

Canada Wins vs USA

Not going lie, this loss is going to sting for a while!  It was such a good series, but to have the game end like it did is just heartbreaking.

As the old 1978 Wide World of Sports intro used to say, “The thrill of victory and the agony of defeat.”

Brady Tkachuk summed it up best when he said, “This sucks.  I thought this team deserved more.”

Agreed.

During that OT period, the United States was dominating Canada, but after a faceoff win by the potential 51st state in the US zone, McDavid got a lucky shot to win the game.

This game would have a different tone if Mathew Tkachuk was able to play.  During the first game, the United States destroyed Canada, they had no chance.

This matchup, however, it was different.  At the start of the game it seemed like the USA was not playing well together, something was off.  Things settled down by the second period, but then it was too late as Canada scored the tying goal making it 2-2. The third was a stalemate at best, which forced the OT.

Make no mistake, this loss is a gut punch.  America played better in the OT period, but it didn’t matter. Lady luck showed her allegiance and gave Canada the go ahead goal and victory.

On the other hand, though, this series was a great thing for the sport of hockey.  In fact, NHL Public Relations reported 10.1 million viewers in North America for the first USA vs Canada game.

That’s huge numbers!

For the future of the U.S. hockey team, the focus now shifts to finishing out the regular NHL season and the winter Olympics, which start in March next year, 2026.

What a hockey game, though, and I’m proud of our men wearing the red, white, and blue!

Thoroughly entertained and looking forward to the rematch during the Olympics next year.
