Gators Advance in College World Series Opener Against FAMU

It’s June and the baseball College World Series is under way.  The Florida Gators played against the Florida A&M University Rattlers on Friday night in the Gainesville Regional double elimination game.

Florida wasted no time as Josh Rivera crushed a 2-0 pitch for a homerun and put the Gators on top 2-0 at the bottom of the first inning.

It was mostly a defensive game as there was no score on either team until the bottom of the eighth inning. Heyman hit a blooper into right field, which gave Hammond an opportunity to score giving Florida a 3-0 lead going into the ninth inning.

The Rattlers couldn’t respond and with the loss, FAMU is in the elimination bracket where they will play against the University of Connecticut today at noon.  Florida, however, will face the Texas Tech Raiders in the winners bracket at 8:00pm EST tonight.
