Fired Up Fridays:  Bruins Defeat Senators in Much Needed Win and NFL Championship Weekend Has Arrived

Bruins Defeat the Ottawa Senators

After the embarrassing loss against the New Jersey Devils, the Boston Bruins bounced back and defeated the Ottawa Senators 2-0.  The Bruins were definitely glad to be back home and play in front of the home crowd and it showed.

Boston’s goalie Joonas Korpisalo played lights out for the Bruins as he stepped in for Swayman who is nursing an upper body injury.

It was Korpisalo’s third shutout for the season.  His seventh during his career.  Korpisalo had 29 saves against his former team as it was a perfect setup for the Bruins to win.  The lonely goal was assisted by David Pastrnack as he sent a pass to Morgan Geekie for the go-ahead score.  Pastrnack eventually scored again on an empty net to cement the Senator’s fate in the last few minutes of the third period.

The Bruins looked sharp last night and they played like it, too.  Far from the performance against the Devils on Wednesday, that’s for sure.

The victory against New Jersey is Boston’s ninth home win out of 11 games.

Next up for Boston will be another home game at the TD Garden against the Colorado Avalanche.

NFL Championship Weekend is Upon Us

Sadly, my favorite NFL team, the Carolina Panthers, are nowhere near the playoffs as they finished with an abysmal 5-12 record, third place in the NFL South Division.

Nevertheless, Championship Weekend is on Sunday between the Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs for the AFC.  The NFC Championship will feature the Washington Redskins (now Commanders) and the Philadelphia Eagles.

This will be Kansas City’s third appearance in a row for the AFC Championship, fourth overall.  Needless to say, there will be a lot of pressure put on Mahomes to set the stage for a threepeat in Las Vegas as Super Bowl 59 Champion.

Before that happens, though, they have to get through the Buffalo Bills.

On the NFC side, the Philadelphia Eagles are poised to potentially set up a Super Bowl 57 rematch between them and the Chiefs.  The Kansas City Chiefs narrowly won that game with a 38-35 victory.

Philadelphia will face off against the flashy Washington Commanders and rookie starting quarterback Jayden Daniels, who has looked very impressive during the 2024 NFL season.

Regardless who wins, though, I’m just hoping for two really good games.  That said, if it were up to me, I’d like to see a Buffalo Bills vs Washington Commanders Super Bowl.

The simulation, however, has a rematch of Super Bowl 57.

We’ll see.  Go Panthers!
