Fired Up Fridays: Phillies Route the Twins at the Field of Dreams Game in Iowa

The iconic Field of Dreams game was played last night at the legendary field from the movie in Dyersville, Iowa. This majestic setting set the stage for a matchup between the Philadelphia Phillies and the Minnesota Twins in the middle of a cornfield, with the Kinsella farm from the 1989 movie Field of Dreams serving as the backdrop.

The Philadelphia Phillies delivered a memorable performance under the lights in Iowa and were just as magical as the swaying cornfields surrounding them.

Kyle Schwarber was the star of the night, going 2-for-5 with two home runs and three RBIs. His first homer came as a leadoff shot, while his second cleared the fence after Minnesota outfielder Luke Keaschall was unable to make the catch.

Brandon Marsh also homered and drove in two runs. Phillies starter Aaron Nola earned the win, allowing one run on five hits while striking out nine over five innings.

Schwarber immediately set the tone by launching a home run on the third pitch of the game. The Phillies steadily expanded their lead, while Nola repeatedly escaped trouble, including a bases-loaded threat that he ended with a strikeout. Marsh’s seventh-inning home run into the cornfield-themed outfield capped the Phillies’ offensive surge.

Luke Keaschall homered in the third inning, putting Minnesota on the board, but that would be their only run of the night.

In the end, the calm winds and purple Iowa sky belonged to the Phillies as they left the Field of Dreams with a 7-1 victory.

This was the third installment of the legendary event. The first matchup featured the Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees on August 12, 2021. The Cincinnati Reds then faced the Chicago Cubs on August 11, 2022, in the second Field of Dreams game.
